I often bemoan the silly grammatical mistakes that seem to be commonplace these days. I mean, I went to government school, too, but it just doesn't seem like it could've been that hard to pay attention when people were being taught about apostrophes, plurals, synonyms, etc. I'm not trying to criticize anyone in particular...that would be impossible, since poor grammar seems to be an epidemic.
Does anyone else worry about the next generation that's growing up quite "computerized", and being allowed to "IM" all day long, paying no heed to capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and such? They're bound to be even worse off than those of us from my era.
And yes, it DOES matter. The way we present ourselves in written format is very telling. Have you noticed that an otherwise intelligent person can come across as a total doofball if you're exposed first to their writing, and realize that they pay no attention to grammar and/or spelling?
So what's the answer? Reading. If one is frequently submersed in good books--not just emails, websites, or magazines--they'll find themself quickly improving in the way they write. It's easier than trying to reteach themselves 5th-8th grade Language Arts...and it's way more fun.

Hear, hear!!! Oh, I mean here, here! ;-) I agree with you hole-hartedly....oh, I mean wholeheartedly! ;-) By the way, I did score 100% on the quiz....lots of fun! It would not surprise me, however, that a good percent of the nation would probably score poorly!
