I love Thanksgiving

Have you ever noticed that stores skip right over it and decorate for Christmas as soon as October's over? That's because it's hard to commercialize a pilgrim, or a turkey that doesn't give you anything but, well, turkey. Which is why it's one of my favorite holidays--it's the least tainted by retailers, so it allows for us as Christians to really make our celebration special and glorifying to God.

Last year we started a Thanksgiving journal. I bought an inexpensive, but pretty, journal to pass around each year so everyone can write what they're thankful for. It's a great way to not only document our stages of life, but to remember who we celebrated the holiday with each year. It forces us to focus on our purpose for gathering, as well as to articulate our blessings from the Lord. Years down the road, I expect it to become a precious family heirloom.

True, the feasting is a very important aspect of the holiday. It's a symbolic and tangible way to acknowledge the bountiful blessings God has provided us with throughout the year. But the next time you catch yourself calling it "Turkey Day", remember that it's so much more--it's about giving thanks unto the Lord, for our cups certainly runneth over.

This is so true...No matter what trials we are facing or what has us worried or despairing, we still have more blessings than we could begin to count. I was glad to have a reminder to stop and praise Him for what He is and has done, and hopefully a reminder to do that more every day.

That is an awesome idea you have with the journal. And I totally agree- we have so much to be thankful for.
