Crock-pot oatmeal

Sorry to get your hopes up by the title to this post. I'd hoped to be able to share a wonderful recipe with you today, but instead, I can tell you what recipe NOT to make! I had such high hopes for this easy way to wake up to warm, cinnamon apple oatmeal, but instead, I couldn't even make myself choke down a full bite. My poor daughter tried to surpress her gagging (quite unsuccessfully), and my dear husband apparently drowned his whole bowl in sugar and tried to show his gratitude to his wife by torturing himself, oatmeal style. Minus hubby's portion, I dumped the entire crock pot batch.

So...if anyone out there has a tried-and-true yummy recipe for crock pot oatmeal (any flavor), I'd really appreciate hearing about it!

I've never had success with crock pot oatmeal (or any other breakfast food). There's just something awry about milk and eggs and long, slow cooking.

Do you have any good dinner crock pot recipes? I love the concept of a crock pot, but I've never had a recipe that was worthy of repeating.

I think Mom has a recipe for something of that sort... she made it when we had all those guests from out of town for the conference and talent show. I'll have to ask her about it...

Not crock pot, but I have a baked oatmeal recipe. Tami/Aubrey/Kristen have another recipe that's similar to mine. I just assemble mine the night before then stick it in the oven that morning.

I love my crock pot! I just started selling Homemade Gourmet and I love the recipes I've tried for the crock pot!

I'm a crockpot fiend, too. I have made a crockpot oatmeal several times that I think tasted good, but then we may not be the best judges since oatmeal is breakfast every day in our house. But my one beef w/ the recipe I use is that even if I heavily grease the crock, it still requires long soaking and tons of elbow grease to scrub it the next day. ugh. That's why I quit making it. But if that doesn't bother you, I can pass on the recipe. I do much better w/ overnight soaked breakfast dishes, liked baked french toast, stratas and the like.

Yes, Kristen...please pass on your oatmeal recipe, and maybe even some of your other breakfast recipes?

Have you tried using the Crock-pot liners that are in the ziploc section of the store? They allow you to just throw the whole thing out, with your crock pot staying clean. The box has 4, and I think they are around $2.50, but it's worth it, especially for the really doozie recipes that will get super duper stuck nomatter what you do!

I use my crockpot all the time, but I've never done oatmeal (mostly because it just doesn't take that long anyway . . .) But I did see an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown made oatmeal in the crock pot . . . read the reviews before you try (mostly for the tips; overall, it got good reviews) Here's the recipe I haven't tried, but I do like Alton Brown):
